Removing Kontera

Posted on: April 8, 2009 by Matt

I suppose the title says it all.  A few weeks ago I opted to give Kontera a shot and see how it worked out.  So far – I am not terribly impressed.  It is not so much that the total clicks were low (there were 2 registered) but more that I can not stand the number o f context links they put up.

Something about it just makes me feel like the site is dirty with Kontera running.  All the context links with all the little pop-ups on hover.  I just do not like it.  I suppose it is a personal preference but Kontera is just not for me.  So that is that – just a heads up and I am going to head out to remove my plugin now.

I think that the decision of putting in text ads on your website is a question of revenues verses the effect on the user experience. I tried in text solution called infolinks on my site and found that not only it generated substantial revenue but also the ads that were displayed were actually interesting and they exposed my visitors to relevant content.

    Ruth –
It was not so much the text ads in the content that bothered me but the Kontera format. I may consider it again in the future but to have every third word show up with double underlines just bothered me. The click rate was pretty low and it just was not clean enough for me to keep. Again – that may all change down the line!

    Thanks for your comment!
