Things I Am Looking Forward To In 2009
Posted on: February 16, 2009 by Matt
As I have noted – 2009 started off with a bit of financial disarray for me. I have been slipping into old habits and have been slacking on working a financial plan. However – by noticing how slipping behind makes me feel I have realized that there are a number of events in 2009 I am looking forward to. Some events are financial in nature, others just simple life milestones I suppose. Right now I can say that I am looking forward to:
- Getting back in shape: My company has opted to reimburse me for a gym membership. Provided I make 3 trips per week I get the cost of my membership ($50 / month) back in an expense check. It is nice, I feel like I am being paid to work out (although that means my work day starts at 6:00 AM a number of days per week).
- No more car payments: I currently am paying an ex-girlfriend roughly $400 per month in a car payment. She lent me the money and was nice enough to allow me to just keep paying her back at a much lower rate than a bank. It is a long story for a car I was hesitant about getting but I do love the car now but the money will go a long way to debt repayment.
- Giving my site a new look: I have been wanting to make some aesthetic changes to my site but have not yet carved out time to do so.
- Paying off my credit card: I have a credit card with a balance of about $1800 on it. Most of the balance is from car repairs prior to my move from Colorado to Vermont last spring. If I apply the $400 from my car payment to my credit card (which I pay above the minimum on now) the balance should be clear by the end of summer / early fall.
- Rebuilding my savings account: Since we moved to our new location we have been trying to get settled completely and have also been having to purchase heating oil to keep warm. Add in our electric company winter rates and higher power consumption and money has been a bit tight. However a number of costs should be reduced as we move forward into the spring which (coupled with some debt payments ending).
Lately with the current state of the economy and my personal situation being off I find that looking forward to some good items a great pickup to get myself motivated.
