My long term goals in no particular order are:

  • Move Into A House: Not just any house, my house.  I would love to finally get into a position where I could own the home that I live in.  I am hopeful that I can accomplish this in the next couple years.
  • Become Debt Free: Aside from a mortgage for the house.  I have several student loans still outstanding but other than that I am doing well on the debt front.  My first focus here will be the student loans I have stuck in collections.
  • Build A Fully Funded Emergency Fund: I have a mini-fund already based on Dave Ramsey’s $1,000 starter emergency fund.  I would like to have closer to 6 months of expenses in the bank in case anything happens though.  I currently have an account with Emigrant Direct for any additional savings. They had a higher APY than ING when I first signed up and still provide good returns.
  • Become Financially Independent: I like my job but I do not like having to do it.  I would eventually like to be able to generate enough income from doing what I want to do that I no longer need the set 9 – 5 (ok, 8 – 5 in my case).
  • Finally Break Down And Get Married?: Well I have never really been one to think that marriage was a goal of mine.  I have been in long, serious relationships before but always held back a bit.  I think that this time around I really do want to get married… I have not officially proposed to my girlfriend but hope to in the not too distant future.  We will see how it goes.

Again, I hope to keep everyone up to date with the goals I have set forward for myself as I make progress on completing them.  The goals above I hope to work through over the next couple of years and accomplish.

  1. Great goals! The first step is writing them down and there’s no better way to be accountable than to post them on your blog! In order to reach your goals faster, you might consider another Dave Ramsey recommendation and deliver pizzas at night. After I swallowed some “humble pie,” I’ve been doing so for the last 4 months and have significantly increased the speed at which we’re working towards our goals. Checkout the link to my blog for some other ideas I’ve come up with along the way.

Hi – I will take a look and see what ideas are out on your blog! I would totally take the Dave Ramsey pizza route but there really is not much of a market here. There are a handful of pizza places but I think that they are mainly pickup only. Small town, not a lot of pizza delivery action, oh well.
